Self Catering | Isle of Lewis | Holidays | Vacations

The Isle of Lewis offers many outdoor activities: Guests may visit shell white sandy beaches with clear water, hundreds of acres of dunes, the unique flowers of the meadow machair, and one of the largest peat moors in Europe.  All are accessible and the crofters are the friendliest and most hospitable of people asking only that you follow the crofting country code when walking over the land.

The long summer days (in mid- summer it is still light approaching midnight) allow plenty of time for such activities. Surfing, kite boarding are offered, while there is golf, tennis and outdoor bowling in Stornoway where there is a sports centre with swimming pool.

As well as great natural beauty and wildlife, Lewis has a wealth of archaeological and architectural sites, The Callanish Stone circle - second only to Stonehenge is only a few miles away. There are many other historical sites, traditional crafts, and galleries and many good restaurants within easy reach, by car, of Tigh na Phoirt Deas.

There is a vibrant Arts scene on the island, particularly in Stornoway.  Many artists are drawn to work here and they sell their works in galleries and at exhibitions.  An Lanntair (The Lantern ), has a cinema, theatre, exhibitions, concerts and a restaurant.
